It's an unknown landscape , we have no idea if anyone knows who we are in Sherbrooke or if anyone will show up.

Aids Wolf

The blurb about us mentions we toured with Les Georges and DFA79 . WE played 2 shows with Les Georges in 2004 and i think a grand total of 3-4 shows with DFA79 spread out in 2003/04.

I think in Canada people will always try to hype us by our "tours" and association with those bands (and any vauge association with ANY remotely popular band) rather than anything we've actually done. I guess the band we ACTUALLY tour with and do collabs with aren't hip enough or something . Oh and we're best pals with Animal Collective cause we were the local opener of their Montreal show in 2004. Don't forget THAT on the AIDS wolf list of achievements. I'm just waiting for a text msg from Panda Bear so we can do a drawing jam with our Crayola crayons .

Anyways , wish us luck . We're ridding a coattail to heaven tonight.

a taste of what's cooking

Our buddy Philippe tagged along with us for most of our euro tour. He was a star roadie and is now putting together the footage he shot to make a movie of sorts.

here's a trailer :

bangin' the withdrawl....

You know, i've always said that weekenders are the worst. It's just a tease of touring , all the prep but as soon as you start feeling like you're in the swing of things -BAM! it's time to go home and nurse what my friend Craig refers too as post-partum depression. But with weekenders it's mixed with blue balls cause you just KNOW that if you had play another 2-3 shows you would really gave it.
Right?
So yeah , we played twice on the weekend and it , as usual wasn't enough. I got home Sunday wanting to play more and feeling jealous of every band that is on tour or getting ready to tour.

Knowing that WE aren't doing a full tour 'til October bums me out , even when I know we have plenty of work to do in the jamspace as we plan to record an album while on tour and still gotta work on the new line-up.

Both shows were fun but our sets were plagued by technical troubles.

In Ottawa , the PA had a meltdown and we put my vocals through a guitar head that was no match for the men's racket. Then in Toronto Andre's amp was wonky (right ater being serviced!) and then Myles' setup got really quiet. And according to Mclean , only the vocals were going through the pa and the drums were barely audible. Enought to make anyone feel paranoid right? It's like the spirits had other plans...

At least no brains were smashed. Some kid , most likely outta his mind on some illicit substance , took a nasty stage dive that no one caught. He landed flat on his face and started climbing on stage to dive AGAIN. He had been yelling for us to play "we multiply " and then when we did he started LOSING HIS SHIT. The bouncer ended up throwing him out , worried the guy would end up in an ambulance. It was pretty intense and awkward. I had no idea if we should stop playing or what. Anyway if you know him , tell him he's awesome and i'm sad he got thrown out and hope he's not hurt too bad.
It was probably for the best though.A brokenface is a bigger bummer than getting kicked out of a show.

Oh yeah , also tell him not to worry we'll never move to California.

So many of our fans seem to be weird , messed up misfits. It suits me fine cause those are the people i relate to the best. The only people who like our band who aren't messed up are other musicians. On reflecting on this Yannick and I both realized that to the bands we like , we are the weird fucked up fans.

The best part of both nights was watching Smoke Judo (check these guys out! they recal a more minimal, early royal trux- really fucking quality) and Fucked Up play head-bangin' sets and chilling with palz.

Here's a pic i found of us in Zagbreb , probably one of my prefered shows of our last tour. I have no idea what's going on with my face and even less idea what people are saying in this review. Probably that we suck.

Bummer-core for life!

Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band's longest lasting and most recurrent drummer is being quite an attractive force lately for me as an inspiration--- not only in the footage I recently found of him playing with the Magic Band showed some similarites in our drumming 'look' (which totally surprised me), but his work ethic and his foundness in polyrythms are teaching me a lot lately, either through the repetitive and obsessive listenings of Beefheart albums where his work is featured or by reading his own writings (he is pretty good at telling stories and vulgarizing concepts). The main appeal in John's playing would probably be found in this fusion of latin rythms, jazz and standard rock, and the way he fills and creates rythmical negative space within the song, coming up with a sonor style that was totally unheard of at the time, and would still be regarded as eccentric now (I could only think of two drummers who can play in such innovative, complex but engaging way, and I have no idea if they were directly inspired by him)--a style that would be cerebral without showing off technical abilities. A monograph relating of his experience working with Don Van Vliet has been in the works since 2000--- and according to French it would be touching especially the technical side of being in the band, so plenty of gear info and such), but no information on the completion and the publishing of the book has been made public since 2002.

This is probably French at his highest, performing songs from 'Decals' and 'Trout Mask'.

And , finally , check out some live pics of us from various shows we've played in Toronto by David Waldman. He's super talented and really sweet too! He's seriously taken a million pics of a million bands and his latest website is GOLD.

Here's a recent review for "lifeforce warriors".

We're very excited to for this show. Not only are sightings one of our favorites in the current "noise" scene but ALSO they are one of the few bands we've met understand the whole "get in the van" thing. Mark even looks like he works out. I was luck to get to pick his brains on all the important things in life : Henry Rollins , Sacchrine Trust ( who are still alive and active!) and of copurse the literary works of Joe Carducci.

Can someone please start a movement called buff-core? The weightlifters in AW would dig the motivation.

We'll be playing a few other shows in Ontario in June. Some of them are looking pretty darn hotttttt. We won't be hitting the USA til fall , but then we're looking at an intensive 6 week tour. We're bring a weight set for the road.
